Madeira Flight Diversion

Funchal is a notoriously hard runway to land and has a special landing procedure. Pilots have to take training for it. The pilots on your flight couldn't make a safe approach and had to divert to Faro. LGW to FNC is about a 4 hour flight. The crew have to make the journey out and back which is at least 9 hours and most crews can only work 11-12 hours in a day, a delay of 2 hours in any form messes up that operation and a cancellation generally happens

Yeah, it seemed to have to do with the crew - they also didn’t have any overnight bags etc.

I hate when people say this, there was a weather event. A drastic change in wind direction. Read the METAR for FNC, understand the special landing procedure, know the crew had no remaining hours to operate a safe approach without them overnighting in FNC, British Airways having a plane and crew out of their operation, the other flights you're talking about had shorter flight times and had better conditions. Then you'll know. There'll be no compensation due.

I meant leaving from Faro. Understand about the weather conditions on our initial attempt at landing. Other flights were diverted to Faro and were able to land later that night. BA decided to send us back to Gatwick instead
