If (VERY Big "If") Nippon was actually created for Warhammer 3, What Do You Think Their General Battle Playstyle Will be?
There is very little possibility that Nippon will ever see the light of day in Warhammer 3 since CA will have to work and/or wait for GW to create such as race, but IF the race was created, what do you think will be their general playstyle in battle? By playstyle, I mean like how the Dwarfs can be described as a defensive, turtle race with a focus on strong infantry backed up with powerful ranged power and artillery or how the Khorne is highly offensive/rush, melee faction with limited ranged capabilities.
I've been dreaming up a version of Nippon in my head for fun for the past few months, and based on a mix of very limited knowledge of Japanese warfare, pop culture depictions of Japanese samurai and ninjas, and finally how best to contrast them from the other four Human/Men races currently in the game, I think got a pretty okay idea for their general battle playstyle. I particularly see them as playing sort of as being an inverse of how Cathay plays.
I believe it would be nice if Nippon played as a generalist-rush faction with a heavy focus on varied infantry but somewhat lacking in ranged capabilities and staying power.
Strengths:
- Speed- Maybe not as fast as Slaanesh and the Beastment, but still pretty fast
- Melee and Skirmish Combat- Samurai units particularly will be infantry killers, and ninja units will be excellent skirmish units similar to Skaven Eshin units
- Killing Enemy Characters: Thanks to Samurai and Ninja characters, who will both be excellent dualist and assassin characters respectively, Nippon won't struggle with killing enemy characters much
- Overall strong Leadership- Maybe not on the level of the Dwarfs, but I could see each Nippon unit on average having higher Leadership compared to other race counterparts.
- Flexible Magic Choices: I see them having a good amount of lores to choice from, but not to the level of the High Elves or the Empire. Lores I think they can have are their unique lore Vim-to/Vimto, Fire, Light, Heavens, and maybe Life. I feel their Lore choices mainly focus around supporting the army and dealing damage to large groups of infantry.
- Lots of Flying Units: This is just a personal thing I'd like to add, but there is only like three races that specialize in flying units (Vampire Counts, High Elves, and Tzeentch), so it would be nice to get another race that has a lot of flying units.
Weaknesses:
- Mediocre Anti-Large: Since their focus is on killing infantry; killing large units will be little bit more difficult. They'll still have anti-large units of course, but you'll still be struggling to put down really big monsters unlike say the Dwarfs or Cathay.
- Overall Mediocre Armor: Since they're focus will be on speed and melee combat, it makes some sense for their units to be lacking in armor, especially ninja units. Only the Samurai units will have overall "decent" armor.
- Mediocre Ranged: Ranged units like ranged infantry and artillery will mostly exist to help soften up enemy armies for the approaching melee units. You won't be getting stuff like what the Chaos Dwarfs or the Empire are throwing around.
- Lack of Monsters: Similar to the Empire, I can see Nippon having only one or two monstrous and/or SEM units as the various infantry in the roster will be the main driving force.
I have much more to say (I've thought a LOT about Nippon in my spare time) like what actual units they can have, but this hopefully gets across the idea I have of how they generally will play if they were made.
