Really don't get the acclaim for Evil

I kept seeing so many good reviews for the show and my friends and coworkers were all it's amazing you gotta see it but I was apprehensive because it was just a CBS series and I haven't found network tv dramas good in quite awhile. But decided to see what the hype was about and I'm 4 episodes in and don't get it.

The writing is still on par with CBS crime dramas especially the techno babble. Aasif's character seems to exist only to say hacking or deep fake every other minute he's on screen.

The daughters everytime they are on screen are insufferable as bad as child actors and adults writing for children can be.

I don't know what tone or direction the show is going for. Episode 1 I was like okay maybe a supernatural version of XFiles with David as Mulder type and Kristen as Scully type. But the stories so far just don't develop that dynamic well.

And each episode thus far feels like they are developing a case but then rush through it especially at the end. Rose390 was the worst where I was like okay so the VR goggles made the kid evil but that A plot never connected to the B plot. Just felt like some lazy black mirror copy crammed in which again leaves me confused on the tone or direction of the show.

Are we supposed to be seeing demons manipulating tech to make people evil? Is this supposed to be a commentary on the evils of tech? Devil using iPhones and Internet to possess? Like by episode 4 I should understand there's the larger mythos and narrative in the background with the possibility of episodes of the week, again, like XFiles. It's just a gold standard.

I don't get it. I will say the low episode count will at least keep me going. If this was fully network tv and I saw there was 24 episodes of this I'd be out. But so far the critics are definitely wrong on this one.
