Watched 'Bloody Murder' (2000)/'Bloody Murder 2: Closing Camp' (2003) and wanted to share my thoughts!

A couple days ago I made a post asking for people to pick a random number and I'd watch and review the film that coincides with it on tubi. One of those films ended up being 'Bloody Murder' (2000). I've know of this film for awhile but don't really go out of my way to watch slashers with that low of an IMDB score. The lowest I typically go is a 4.3. Bloody Murder has a 3.1 which is tough haha. So here's my review

'Bloody Murder' (2000)

I was marginally entertained and didn't hate this film. It has very obvious limitations but I wasn't miserable while watching it. Not exactly a glowing review but here it is.

The performances are pretty simple and standard. No one's really great although are lead did get better at the end. She atleast looked scared, had a good scream and could cry. The characters are standard and simple as well. Just regular slasher teens.

The movie looks cheap too. It has this light haze over it and the editing is choppy (It leads to a supposed killer reveal that's just a lie to the audience and not at all explained plot wise what happens). If you told me this film was filmed on a camcorder I'd believe you.

The kills are pretty boring and there really isn't a lot of blood or gore. We get a character who's shot with some arrows and there's blood, a character who's stabbed in the chest (A circle of blood surrounding the knife on his shirt) and a neck slit (It lingers on it but there's no blood until it cuts back to him). So yeah, lame kills, a little amount of blood used. Atleast there's something I guess.

Overall, it's a very low budget entertaining at times slasher film that I didn't hate watching. I don't think I'll ever be rewatching it though. It's 3.1 definitely makes sense. Maybe I should check out more slashers that are in the 3's on IMDB considering I didn't hate this one? Maybe not. Maybe I should love myself more haha

'Bloody Murder 2: Closing Camp' (2003)

The one thing I was told before I watched this film was that it was definitely better. It has a 4.4 on IMDB compared to the first film's 3.1. They are also relatively close in votes (1.9K/1.4K votes) so the scire would seem fairly accurate. This made me curious. I am happy to say that this film is definitely an improvement. Don't get me wrong, it's still a bad low budget cliche ridden 00's slasher but definitely fun.

First off, this movie looks like an actual movie. It's clearer, has direction, good camera movements/angles and proper seeming editing.

The performances are better, I'd say specifically Tiffany Shepis who plays Angela. Our lead is boring and one note but the actors here seemed more comfortable and natural. Still not great but better.

The kills, gore and blood are definitely better as well. The first kill (The best kill) has more gore, blood and practical effects then the first film seemed to have in it's entirety. We don't get other kills like this in the film but they still have more blood and atleast try to be creative in it's usage.

Overall, this film is way more watchable, entertaining and fun. I'm sure most hardcore slasher fans would enjoy this sequel, and even if you didn't you can't deny the obvious jump in quality of BM2.
