Moved to Seattle and have a few thoughts

Made this thread around 2 months ago, giving some updates.

  1. Haven't started a job yet, but I got offered a role that'll pay $60k a year, which isn't a crazy amount but it's almost double what I was making in Indiana so I'm psyched - I start Monday. Wages are ridiculously high here. Like I said in my last thread, I feel like you truly shouldn't take how pro-worker blue states are for granted.
  2. Seattleites be disheveled, hunched over and using canes. I live in the midpoint of the city near the CID so most of these ppl are probably homeless fent zombies, which was something I was aware of beforehand and am disappointed at how true it still is. No violent encounters but they do ask me for cash. It's sad and does make me angry. I'm not even one to get that bent up over open drug-use but I wish homeless ppl would just dress nicer, get better taste in music, clean up after themselves and stop striking up dumb conversations. I'll be picking up the trash around my apt sometime this week before I start my job.
  3. Public transit is very good, Sound Transit gives this city a bright future - would love to work for them. Never had problems with the light rail and the busses come around in pretty high frequency (15 min intervals are unheard of where I'm from). I can take the steetcar up to QFC from my apt relatively quickly. I'll never buy a car so this works very well for me.
  4. I get up to weirdo gay shit in this town; my expectations of the nightlife in this regard have been very much met. I'm sure some of you know what I mean by this. Had tons of online friends who live up here as well, so the "Seattle Freeze" was never gonna apply to me.
  5. I'm not a NIMBY and I enjoy the density here - better than a grid of parking lots - but I think the developers who design these new apt complexes should be executed. "Oh but building with brick is expensive!!!" cry me a river. I will vote in a referendum to remodel the facades of all these buildings if push came to shove. Not a Seattle-specific problem though, it's happening everywhere.
  6. The ability to see the Olympics and the Cascades on all sides of the city puts me in awe. Mt. Rainier being casually visible blows me away.

Idk that's about it.
