Does anyone think about Otto Frank a lot?
I think about this man a lot.
He was incredibly smart and did everything he could to save his family. He saw the writing on the wall in Germany and got them out. He moved to the Netherlands, learned a new language, and built his second business. Saw the writing on the wall again but America was having another no immigrant moment. So he was trapped. He built a secret annex so his kids could live. He was kind too so his friends tried to help him.
Then the gestapo find them in August of 1944. And they get the last train from Netherlands to Auschwitz. Fucking kidding me?
His wife, his daughters, his friends, his friends’ son.. all dead. But he lives. I don’t think I could have survived. He did though. He published his daughter’s diary and remarried in time. What fucking strength he must have had to live through such incredible sorrow
