Storage is too damn expensive

When I started renting my apartment it came already furnished, which is great because I just moved out of college and don't have any furniture. However it's a very small space and, more importantly, a few small living room. In that living room there's a barstool counter top and 4 barstool chairs. The chairs take up a lot of space in the already small living room so we wanted to get rid of them. The apartment said they didn't have anywhere to store them, so I looked up the nearby public storage. I figured, hey storing 4 chairs, smallest space possible, it couldn't be that expensive.

... 50 dollars a month. They want 50 bucks a month for the smallest closet space 5ft x 5ft room. That's 600 bucks a year. They must have a hundred of these storage areas on their lot, and that's just the small ones. And it's not like they have to do any maintenance. It's just storage. How in the hell does it cost so much? All I wanna do is get these chairs out of my apartment.
