Ben Johnson choosing the Bears was a blessing in disguise. Thoughts?
The Raiders are at a point where they cannot afford to whiff on another Head coach. While there's a chance Ben Johnson is the next Kyle Shanahan, there's also a chance he's the next Josh Mcdaniels. In fact, it's most likely the second one. Most new Head coaches do not work out.
Pete carroll has a proven track record. He turned around a Seattle team that was in a similar situation and didn't have a QB either. There's almost zero chance that Pete Carroll is a bad coach, or as bad as Antonio Pierce or Josh Mcdaniels.
You are guaranteed that no matter what, it will not be so bad that mark Davis has to fire him in the middle of the season. At the very least, he will have the Raiders pointed in a positive direction, something they haven't had since the last years of Gruden.
Most of being a head coach is not about scheme or calling plays, but being a leader and knowing how to manage a team. I watched Ben Johnson speak at his press conference and interviews, and frankly, he did not come across as a natural leader to me.
If you have a team that is a dumpster fire, you don't go out looking for the new shiny object. You go with someone who has a proven track record and tons of experience, to build from the ground up.
