New septum ring! (And undesired feedback drama)
Have been wanting my septum done for about 8 years. Finally got it done last week for my birthday, as a gift to myself after a horrible last couple of months that left me with some trauma to deal with. And, well, I love it!! Got some encouragement from some cousins, a friend or two. Husband felt neutral and was like, "yeah, go for it." He ultimately doesn't care, and that's the outside opinion I cared most about. Note my nostril piercing that I already have, as well. Got that several years ago.
Turns out, my (Gen X) in laws about lost their ever-lovin minds! MIL saw a pic on fb and ran to my husband talking about "why would she ruin her face," "well she's gonna get told at family gatherings it looks like a hog ring," "why would you want that," "what will (elderly matriarch of the family) think," "I can't believe you let her do that," and some other things. FIL didn't give off the vibe he cared much but wasn't pleased, either. I wasn't present for this conversation!!! But like.. I'm a little hurt that they so strongly reacted?! And that they thought it was appropriate to react TO my husband in that way. He deflected and handled it fine, and told them he would tell me every word they had said. It's wild that they reacted so strongly, especially since I already had one nose piercing. We have had a wonderful relationship with them, very close and respectful up to this point. I'm blindsided and totally stunned. It's not going against our shared religion, I'm still the same person I was, and culture has changed so much! It doesn't have the same shock value it might have had back in the 80s-90s. Or.. shouldn't, anyway.
All that to say, does yall have any funny responses to say to things like, "looks like a hog ring," or "looks like a bull/cow," etc? I'd love to hear them.
