Be honest with me: overall, how safe is Philadelphia for transgender people.
My friend and I are both trans, both nonbinary. They present masculine most of the time but like to wear nail polish and/or dye their hair, whereas I'm a bit more ambiguous with my clothes, enjoying both feminine and masculine things.
I know it can vary depending on the neighborhood, of course. I'm from Baltimore, so I get how shit can change up real fast from block to block.
So, will we generally be safe? What neighborhoods should we aim for? Which ones should we avoid? Anything we should know before moving there?
My friend is from the Midwest, and they've never been in a bigger city, so I want to make sure they stay as safe as possible. I know Philly ain't Baltimore; I'm used to the second most dangerous city in the US, so obviously I may be being a bit overprotective or paranoid, but I just won't want them to walk into this thinking shit will be perfectly fine and then ending up getting jumped or something...
EDIT: THANK YOU EVERYONE! You guys have been so kind and really assured me that my friend and I will be just fine. I'm doing research now on all the great places everyone has told me about. Thanks so much! 🥰
