Rental Situation in St John’s

I’m here laying in bed almost having a panic attack over the lack of available housing to rent. I’m currently on maternity leave and the house I’m renting may be sold. The landlord offered to sell it to us and we’d love to buy it but ever since Covid, our savings has taken a beating. So we are trying to come up the the down payment and my husband is even going to sell his car he just paid off last year. I’m sick to my stomach because what if we can’t swing this, there is nothing out there that would work for our family. I have a school aged son, a baby and two cats. Everything seems to be 1 or two bedrooms and no pets. My son would be devastated if I got rid of the cats and I feel so helpless. We both have good jobs, but I don’t know how people are doing it. Why is housing so hard to find now. I’m really feeling desperate.
