Google Chrome running slow on Macbook Air with Apple M2 chip, why?

I recently just got my new Macbook Air coming from an older 2016 Macbook Pro. When using chrome it is the only app on the computer that has lag/input lag/ just completing tasks slower than normal. When I say the only app im serious it could freeze with 100 other things running on the computer while everything else runs perfectly smooth. I've cleared my cache, search, and completely reinstalled chrome multiple times. I even went so far as wiping the whole computer and completely restarting everything. I don't know what the solution is or how I'm able to optimize chrome. I switched to safari purely for the performance difference, but after a week or so on safari, I just want chrome back. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could possibly be going on? I have no idea.
