What's you stance regarding classic schooling/academic learning versus self-thought/autodidacticism

Do you prefer one of the other? Do you feel one have more advances over the other? I do not deny the benefits of official schooling, however I have always felt much better when I have self thought myself and over the long term I do feel this made a huge difference in term of depth and of knowledge and my intellectual progress.
