Crown molding - yes or no?

Hello! I’ve been learning about designing and found this lovely group! I wanted to see what your opinion was about crown moldings - are they outdated or a must have? I’ve been reading that people are going away from them but I’m aware it could just be the fashion now. My partner and I are trying to go for a cleaner/“timeless” look especially in our kitchen and we don’t know if we want to go for the crown molding or not. We plan to paint the wall trim and ceiling the same colors. (The photo above is a model photo but our kitchen would look the same).
