RCN’s (Finally) Released Andrew Headsculpt vs the Original Hot Toys (plus comparisons to other alternatives)

After waiting, seeing initial release pics, and now having it in my hand. I think the RCN headsculpt is… Fine. The sculpt itself? Very good. The older likeness is perfectly recreated here, although I do see a lot more softness and even mold lines around the sculpt. But the paint? For somewhere around $80-90, I don’t think it’s much better than say the $40 Doc Brown head Kit also sold, not from RCN Studios. It feels like third party paint work, maybe cause it is, but the OG paint and sculpt were much more impressive than this. The included rubber insert is laughable and needs to be chucked into the bin cause it makes the head too tall.

All in all though, it’s not bad. I’m gonna be hyper critical after waiting so long but I do think it’s better than the alternative choices out there like the Black 8 sculpt which was a very bad knock off of the V Collectibles sculpt. Even though it’s an older Andrew, in general I’d say the likeness is much more striking than the TASM 2.0 headsculpt, which uses a 10 year old mold but with modern paint apps (which I consider better than the RCN paint apps).

I’m definitely more excited to get the head that comes with the TASM1 2.0 suit (which I have dubbed the 3.0 Andrew head), as it has rolling eyeballs and now I’ve started to move away from the NWH look in my collection. That said, if you do want a NWH look, this is a much better choice than the stock HT. It’s value is determined by you, but I think I might stray away from purchasing from RCN studios in the future.
