So, I just watched the outwaters

The outwaters, a movie that was on my watch list for a while. Today was the day, I finally watched it.

So was the movie bad? Yes, yes it was a bit. The quality of the movie is mediocre at best, the acting is Alright. The setting is okay but nothing extremely special. It’s not horrible but it took me out of some scenes because they just didn’t deliver.

My first issue is the sound design, it was a mixed bag. Some parts of it literally carried the movie, it made it very unnerving. Other parts felt flat, there should be a Loud noise coming from the desert but you hear so clearly that its just edited afterwards. And there are more examples like the earthquakes the whole time. It looks cheap.

The big question, was it scary? If I have to be honest, It did scare me a bit. The movie is unnerving, disturbing and genuinely creepy at some times. The sound design mixed with some visuals really stay with me. It’s just all very weird, it’s a real nightmarish experience. A fever dream.

Is it similar or as scary as Skinamarink? It is a bit similar but not a lot, both have many dark scenes and a unique sound design. For the rest it’s not that similar. Skinamarink is in my option better and scarier. The quality is better, the scares have better tention building and the visuals are even more frightening. The only thing is that the outwaters it’s weirder and more a relatable experience if you know what I mean.

The problem with the outwaters is that the quality is just not good enough, there are no real scary pay offs. Everything is to random and too weird. And although some scenes are disturbing they are not as scary as they could be.

Conclusion: do you like weird movies that feel like a fever dream? If yes than give it a shot. It’s not good but a experience to say at least. And oh yeah watch it alone in the dark at night!
