What are your thoughts on lake mungo?

I recently made a top 10 scariest films. I didn’t put lake mungo in but I’m slowly changing my mind. It didn’t really effect me on my first watch. I didn’t find it scary, mainly because I watched a lot of over the top horror movies the days before.

After thinking about it for a while it’s slowly starts too become more haunting. It’s a very sad and emotional movie mixed with a haunting horror element.

It’s partially something that happens in real life or can happen. Mixed with a kind of ghost element, the thing is that it’s done in such a realistic way. You feel the emotions of the family, and you feel like you experienced what the girl went through. And if that’s not horrifying enough you also see that the dead girl is coming back but not as a human.

This ofcourse seems very typical but it’s not. She is only lurking in the background and isn’t doing anything over the top. It feels so realistic that it feels like the most terrifying thing here on the planet. No flickering lights or letters under the doormat. But a dead family member trying to contact you standing in the corner of your house. And also if you where the girl herself, experiencing the most traumatizing and horrifying death. And after that your being left alone because your family thinks you are at peace. Seeing yourself how you Look after you died and seeing it in this kinda way is the most horrific thing in a movie I’ve seen in a while.

What are your thoughts on lake mungo? and do you think it deserves a spot in my top 10
