The Kantamanto conflagration

Again, the Kantamanto market has been the subject of fire. The toll in material loss has been large and almost everyone has been affected profoundly especially because very few are likely to have been insured. Thankfully there has not been reports of casualties

The market occupied an area in the capital which had become an eyesore. More importantly it has been allowed to flout health and safety rules and conditions were such that even those affected will admit that the events were not unexpected.

Now, the chance has been offered to AMA to turn it into a Phoenix which rises from the ashes. It is located on a major street which was and is still one of the prime estate areas in Accra.

AMA should restore this area, renovate the railway station scene. All traders should be relocated to a planned area, with modern conditions which befits Accra.

The events are tragic but it can be filed under cases where nature sometimes solves its own problems.
