Best paved places to ride bikes for recreation?

Now that my kid is old enough to ride a real bike, I want to get back into cycling. Prefer paved and not street so it’s safe and easy for kiddo. I’ve walked the path along the Rappohannoc (that’s called riverfront park, right?) Any other tips?
