Why do people hate Gryphon?

I jump in and out of this game as none of my friends play it so I can only solo for so long before I need a break from it. I don't follow the meta or things like that. Just play who I enjoy, one of which is Gryphon but I see a fair amount of dislike for the character and was just wondering why.
