WhatsApp?

I have recently matched with not one, not two but three men here in my US state that are originally from Europe. Two of them very quickly asked for my number and I provided my google voice number which is not connected to WhatsApp. The third person, I provided my real number that is connected to WhatsApp.

The first two immediately commented that I didn’t have WhatsApp’s and insisted that I use it to communicate with them which after I refused, quickly unmatched me.

The third guy messages me on WhatsApp the next morning. I don’t reply for a few hours because I’m at work so he follows up with an OLD message asking me if I saw his message, I replied that i hadn’t yet and I would rather use regular text. At the same time, I re-examine his profile and I see that he is 1,300 miles away. I message him asking if he is currently traveling. Within 5 minutes the profile is back to within 25 miles. He eventually responds with a laughing emoji, and a comment that we are indeed 25 miles away.

So my questions here are: is this a new scam? Is this normal, or am I being overly cautious and unnecessarily suspicious?
