Just need to vent
83 days ago my 8 year old niece Rae had a stroke and was rushed 6 hours by plane to children’s hospital in Nebraska. She was born with dilated cardiomyopathy and was diagnosed at 2. After DNA testing we found out her mom (my sister) her 15 year old brother and myself (uncle) all have dilated cardiomyopathy. She was placed on ecmo for over a month until the doctors believed she was as healthy as she would get and that time was against her. She fought extremely hard and she became the first person in nebraska to successfully get a BIVAD or bi-ventricular assist device implanted. It essentially took the place of her heart. During this time her kidneys started failing and eventually her lungs. Just two days ago the doctors said despite infection that took hold in her lungs they were optimistic she could still beat this stage and get listed for a heart transplant. Today at 7am, my sister called and asked our family to come as soon as possible. We drove the 9 hours and picked up her two sisters and brother and brought them with. We arrived and found out that she isn’t going to make it. My sister and her husband were just postponing withdrawing her life support until we all arrived. I don’t know what I’m asking for here, but you all are always so kind and I’ve always felt like this community is full of friends we just haven’t met yet. Rae was such a kind kid, inspiring, and a beautiful girl. I’m going to miss her terribly, we all are. Thank you all for allowing me to speak about her. Never take life and your health for granted. Much Love.
