Keto Diet and Climbing Training
So on New Year's Eve I started the Ketosis Diet after being recommended it by a friend. For those of you who aren't familiar with this type of diet - Its where you eat primarily fats, with an appropriate amount of protein (I'm doing 1.2g/kg of body weight), and extremely low carbohydrate intake (less that 20g per day). This puts you in a state called ketosis where your body creates ketones in the liver to use fats as your body's primary energy resource. It has a lot of health benefits which I won't go into but if you're interested definitely do some research yourself, I'll include some links below.
Anyway, I've decided to try this diet after a friend had some amazing results when he did it for 3 months leading up to our last trip to font in November. I've always had a low body fat percentage but have always struggled to get it "really low", and the diet had really helped him and his climbing immensely. So decided to go for it myself.
I'm not here to recommend it or anything, mostly this post is a means to keep myself motivated. I've currently got the "Keto Flu" which is an extremely annoying dip in performance and flu like symptoms due to your body altering its primary energy source. (NOT FUN! At least it should only last another day at worst...) This lead to an extremely disappointing hang board session where I was averaging approximately half my usual times and I just gave up, as I was getting prettyyy mad at myself. Hopefully, though, I can stay motivated and if enough people are interested would love to report back and specifically let you guys know how its going from a more quantifiable standpoint (all the numbers and such).
Also, if anyone else has tried this diet or is currently doing this diet I'd love to hear about your experiences and discuss any help you could offer/help I can offer you!
