I feel stupid and embarrassed
Just adopted our boy Sekki from the shelter and he has been perfect. Seriously the perfect cat… cuddly and sweet, eating and drinking and took immediately to the litter box. The most gentle and kind boy.
Over our months of saving and planning, I have watched HOURS of new cat videos and hauls and training tips.
We are trying so hard to make sure he will have a great life, lots of play time and cuddle time, cat trees and toys and space to climb and look out the window. But most importantly, making sure he is healthy and up to date on shots.
So… I’ve been feeling good. First vet visit went great, he’s eating his new food, loving toys and treats and pets. Last major thing to do is: call and update his microchip info.
So I call today, confirm all the information, get a rundown of how their system works, and then they hit me with: “Our annual plan is $70 but our lifetime plan is $250, which most people get.”
My heart drops to my stomach. I realize I have been a fool. Nothing in life is free. I apologize to the person on the phone and ask if there is any way I can call back or go online. I was so unprepared to shell out that much for this. And I feel so stupid.
No new cat prep video, no blog post, no cat essentials podcast, nothing prepared me for the price tag - or even the IDEA - of a price tag on microchip services. And like Duh… of course you have to pay.
