Trapped. Did I make a huge mistake? Underpaid and trapped with a relocation agreement!?

I accepted a Quality Manager Position in NYC getting paid a salary of $95,000. Relocation package I had to sign states I owe 100% of it if I leave within a year and 50% if I leave in year two.... last I checked, relocation fees were $18,000.... now that I'm here, I realize this salary is taxed heavily, and I can barely afford a 1 bedroom in Long Island. Did I just trap myself to be miserable and poor!? What can I do.... am I underpaid?

Edit: My current industry is healthcare. Have a partner I'm moving with.
