Character driven book suggestion

Genre doesn't matter, something like Lonesome Dove or Shogun. I also really really like Joe Abercrombie and KJ Parker, The Folding Knife is one of my favourite novella. I want complex characters, morally grey and no plot artifices, that's something that really makes me check out.

Fantasy Is ok but heavy magical worlds also usually make suspension of belief very hard to get for me.
