Lore and Atmosphere Are Unbeatable for Any Fantasy Game Released in the Last Half Decade
This sort of stuff is the reason why I say this is the closest thing we’ve had to Morrowind since Morrowind. Yes, it’s more modern and yes, it’s in Eora not Nirn. But open zone / open world fantasy exploration games have not at any point in time given that same Morrowind feeling of being a stranger in a strange land to which you nonetheless have a mysterious and critical connection, but even just in a more general sense the overall haunting atmosphere is something I haven’t experienced in a game since Witcher 3. Yes, as everyone keeps pointing out this game has its flaws (as all do) in a couple of its tangibles - some of which may well be taken care of with future patches - but Avowed has so much to offer especially in terms of intangibles. Like atmosphere and “soul.” I definitely rank Avowed well above Starfield and in another league from Veilguard. Of all the games released in the last two years, there are literally only two I would rank higher than Avowed: Baldur’s Gate III and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, and that’s really saying something because those two are those exceedingly rare games that are, as a whole entity, essentially works of art.
