Vegan pizza - update

Yesterday I asked about vegan pizza.

I got so many suggestions and I went through all of the websites for those places. Some people asked me for a review.

I settled on Il Fornello, because their orchiette funghi is already one of my favourite things ever and because they had exactly what I wanted right on the menu. It was the best decision of my life. The dough is so doughy!!! EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED!!! The cashew mozzarella doesn't taste exact but what vegan cheese does? I enjoyed it as its own thing, and it had a really nice nutty taste that paired well with the roasted mushrooms and little pepperoni slices, which I'm pretty sure are made in-house. They weren't like flat, greasy fast food pepperoni, which was kind of what I had in mind when writing my post, but I'm happier with the small, crumbly pepperoni I got. It had a really nice mix of spices. All of my favourite foods are on the opposite ends of the spectrum of home-cooked, whole foods and highly processed, questionably edible plastic. This pizza felt really home-y.

As a side note: I ended up calling them to double-check it was vegan because the sticker on the box was accidentally checked off in the non-vegan section. I wanted to trust them but I made that very painful mistake when I blindly trusted Blondie's a few years ago after they replaced my vegan cheese with real cheese because they ran out and didn't tell me... I devoured half of the pizza because I was so hungry and hadn't had their fake cheese before, and ended up staying up until 2:30 throwing up. The staff at Il Fornello were so nice while confirming for me that it was vegan. The person on the phone even offered to look for themself if I sent a photo, and the chef personally came out to confirm on the phone too.

Anyway this is a two-parter. My fiancee and I will often order from different places on nights we get delivery, because she's gluten-free and has more limited options, so I didn't ask for her in my post... but after looking through your suggestions herself, she ordered from PiCo. She wrote a review too.

PiCo did a very tasty gluten-free crust. It was a bit soft, but I like pizza that way sometimes. I heavily customized it and I'm not sure what their non-custom vegan and GF options are, if any, but the pizzas I put together were assembled expertly, and I based one of them off of their own menu, so you'll get something tasty. Essentially, very good oven-style pizza, won't satisfy a craving for more fast food style pizza, and doesn't come close to filling the hole that is Apiecalypse because nothing can or will, but PiCo is 100% a top choice for what it is/a top choice overall. Will order again, the dough doesn't even feel like that cardboard GF stuff you get at some other places, but actually feels like nice dough

(I also had a bite and if you told me the dough had gluten I would believe you)

This was way lengthier than I was aiming for, sorry haha. But thank you to everyone who suggested pizza!! There are so many great places in the city. I'm going to keep the post handy to try a new place next time :)
