Subreddit like this one, but without the “rage farming” (for lack of a better word)

Do you ever have a clear, well thought-out opinion on a given subject, but then get randomly recommended to the frontline of ego war? Naturally, you expect to be able to discuss said subject with civility, humility, precision, and open-mindedness, but are instead met with the worst allies imaginable.

Like, I’m not an extremist, but I would say I generally disagree with what seems to be the consensus on this subreddit. Still, I’m happy to debate, and I do really enjoy some of the conversations I’ve had with people on here.

However, there is this recurring issue I’ve noticed: A lot of what the people on here say is both outlandish and — more often than not — off point. This, sadly, applies to both the people I disagree with, and those whose character I really don’t want to align myself with.

It’s especially disturbing when I try to correct those on “my side” for saying something factually wrong or out of touch, but those on the opposition who do the same get praised instead. This is basically the case with most meme-templated comments (I think you see what I mean).

I personally have a policy which dictates I don’t just “mute” subreddits I disagree with. I feel doing so, no matter how infuriating my recommended page gets, is a little short-sighted, which goes against the whole “open-mind” stuff.

I guess what I’m trying to ask is, for lack of a known better alternative, do any of you fine people with your differing, but certainly real and (sometimes) valid opinions have any subreddit recommendations which could fill the role I expected this one to have? If there is a subreddit made for people who stay (or at least try to stay) on point and are open to debating on this subject I hold dear, then I would be ever so thankful for your help.

If, on the other hand, it is I that is unknowingly confused and lost within my own internet-fuelled tunnel-vision, then please do tell me.
