Failed myself big time and now my career might need to be put on hold for a year
I am a women (26) who was diagnosed with ADHD a few years back. I constantly fail myself and mess up major, important life events even when I am actively trying not to do just that.
For example in grade 9 I forgot to pay the fees for school so I didn't get a year book that year. It happened again in grade 12 but this time I thought I double checked and made sure everything was good to go. Apparently I did not pay the fees I needed to pay and they did not order me one.
Another time my university graduation ceremony I paid for tickets double checked and I thought I made sure everything was good to go. But when I went to pick up the tickets I was shocked to learn that they didn't have them. Luckily I was able to get some and to walk across the stage. Still do not know what happened and what step I missed in this instance.
Now onto my venting. I am getting a degree in education to become a teacher. The way we do it here is we have two practicums this is my last and what I need to graduate. In order to be in the school you need a police check. Without the check you cannot do your practicum it's really important and they take time to come in. I thought I got the application submitted 20 days ago. I thought I double checked and made sure it was submitted and paid for and it was. Or so I thought.
Today I get an email saying I need to submit my police check for my practicum. Up until this point I totally forgot about it and was like it should be in let me check. Turns out I missed the authentication process and it does not get submitted until that is done.
They want this police check two weeks before my practicum that starts February 10th. I don't think I will have it even back by then let alone 2 weeks prior. Without it I cannot do my practicum.
I have no words with the anger, sadness and shame I feel towards myself right now. I cannot complete a simple task even when I thought I double checked and slowed down took my time. I know it has to do with ADHD and the issues with object permience that made me forget to check sooner. Or my struggle with not reading instructions close enough and lack attention to detail when it comes to written steps. If I don't do this practicum I cannot graduate and I have to wait another year to finish my degree.
Sorry for the long post and thank you to anyone who read this far.
