Frustrated
Just kinda want to vent on here if that’s okay.
I’ve been in a heavy flare for over 2 months now and have been working thru it as best I can, but man this disease can be brutal. It doesn’t help that our healthcare system is so broken. I haven’t responded well to prednisone this time around and was put on Humira 3 weeks ago. The first two loading doses went fine and a couple days later I finally felt like I was getting my health back! Then came time to schedule my 3rd loading dose with my assigned Humira nurse ambassador - we set up a video call and during the injection I guess I pinched too little skin from my stomach and the auto-injector went thru my belly and into my index finger. Ouch. I tell the nurse what happens and she says this has happened before especially with thin people (I’m razor thin) and she gives me a number to call to get a replacement order in. Great, no problem. Except that my GI doctor needs to approve the replacement order before it can be shipped out. My GI is overbooked and very difficult to get ahold of as she’s only in the office two days a week and doing procedures every other day…ugh. Anyway, long story short, it took an entire week of back and forth calls between my GI’s medical assistant and Abbvie reps (the drug company that makes Humira) before my GI finally signed off on the replacement 80mg loading dose today which will get to me this Thursday. I’ve been on a steady decline again ever since I botched the last dose of Humira and I don’t know much about how biologics work. I’m trying to remain hopeful that Humira will get me out of this flare but I’m going to be 9 days past my original injection date at this point. Has anyone else been in a situation like this? I’m so tired of this.
