the importance of touching grass

I see discussions everyday about how rampant the misogyny is on online platforms. Hell! I participate and start some of these discussions myself. But at the end of 2024 I sort of had an epiphany. I realised I’m not going to be able to change any misogynistic man because frankly I’m not a rehab centre for curing misogyny and other types of bigotry.

I also felt that browsing and scrolling a lot on social media was affecting me negatively because almost every other post is rage bait, and these platforms are engineered that way. Engagement thrives on negativity, and these platforms want to increase negativity and show you more rage bait type content so you get angry, engage and start arguing in the comments.

Anyways, I put on some settings on my reddit account so subreddits I’m not a part of will no longer be suggested to me. I deleted my twitter account, barely use instagram, and that’s about it. Ever since inculcating these new changes I feel super productive. I’ve read almost 6 books so far this year and run everyday. I also want to spend more time with people I care about so I’m making plans almost every weekend.

At the end of the day, these online platforms treat us as commodities to drive engagement and to make money. It’s upto us to define the limits.
