A Couple of Questions I've Been Having a Hard Time Answering
Hey everyone, I have a couple of questions that I would like to answer, and have had some trouble doing so. Does anyone mind answering some of them or all of them? At least as many as they can?
- St. Basil the Great in his work "On The Right Use of Greek Literature" (which I highly recommend, given it's my favorite piece of spiritual literature with "Who is the Rich Man who Shall Be Saved" by St. Clement of Alexandria being my second favorite) bans the application of sweet-smelling ointments on the body as it would lead to or even be the over-glorification of the body. Does that mean it is sinful or wrong for me to get cologne and use it?
- I have been wondering if it is ok to buy things like books from stores such as Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Other Book sellers even if they sell bad books (be they sell bad books that can be either protestant, or especially in the case of Barnes and Noble and Amazon occult or even satanic books) or have bad business practices (Amazon with China and Bezos being a liberal funder). Can I buy from them, or is it a moral obligation of mine to boycott them?
- Would I be able to read the works of Cardinal Richelieu (A Treatise on Perfection) and James Cardinal Gibbons (The Faith of Our Fathers) even though they expressed some heretical/schismatic opinions and actions (Richelieu with both Gallicanism and the Thirty Years War, Gibbons with Religious liberty, the jews, and protestants being considered Christian)?
- Can I have Santa Claus stuff in my house, even though much of modern media has tried to use him to replace Jesus and the true meaning of Christmas?
- What is the best way to meet a Catholic woman to court outside of Church? Should I use dating apps, and if so what ones?
- What do people think of the idea of Baptism of Desire after they read the Document of the Council of Florence entitled Cantate Domino, which states that no Jew, Heretic or Schismatic can be saved unless they are firmly within the bosom of the Church before the end of their lives?
- Does the study of physiognomy go against the Lord Jesus Christ's commandment not to judge?
- Can I watch anime like Naruto and Death Note, given that they have pagan or atheistic influences? I know that pagan lore was to a point allowed to be read by the Church and Church Fathers, but I would like to know whether given themes of those shows I can watch them as a Catholic. I saw this video from a bishop that made me question what I can watch: https://youtu.be/NmG3evn5RaI?si=mI3V_YmvaoLHgfIx and this video https://youtu.be/Jd9jdA2g69I?si=cbEUS_L8cNHt-GZj
