I made Tekken King and I am sad about it
I know this is old news, but seeing Tekken King myself really put this into perspective.
My prowess the match before Tekken King? Around 225k. So already the level first time Tekken Kings were as I have 7 characters at blue rank.
My prowess after hitting Tekken King? pretty much 260k. TGS prowess. I was Bushin, and one game, now prowess thinks I am TGS.
So hitting Tekken King gives you 35,000 prowess. Thirty. Five. Thousand. And you don't ever lose this. And they use this for MATCHMAKING.
How can matchmaking be based on such a non linear, arbitrary value? Where one game gives you 35,000 prowess - and like 15% of your previous total for one game?
And it makes ranks so meaningless. I am shallow, I like to see "Tekken King" at the top right of my screen. So I will not be playing the character I got there with. If I did, If I was a single character loyalist, chances are I would get deranked fast, and then all of a sudden the game thinks I am 35,000 prowess better than I was before, but I would have gained nothing.
I see this with a player I set as a rival. He has around 250k prowess so he gets matched versus the top level of players - in my climb to Tekken King I barely saw any players with mains above Tekken God. Looking at my rival's matchmaking, he had multiple TGS+ level players in a row at Kishin.
The guy (my rival) took a game off of Kaizoku Lars's (prowess over 400k) Clive. He took a game off of Kaizoku Lars' Clive. And the game has his rank lower than mine. And that's going to be me now, from never the Tekken Gods to always the Tekken Gods.
It is all so f**king dumb.
If matchmaking was fair, and I was facing these pro alts, you know what maybe I wouldn't have been able to hit Tekken King. But at least it would have been fair. At least it would have been meaningful.
Because I think rather than credit my own skill improvement for my rise to Tekken King, I can credit this:
1: Prowess matchmaking boosts lower skilled players of 1 main through blue ranks to Tekken King by insulating them from the more experienced players (while more experienced players are stuck against each other).
2: Making Tekken King boosts these lower skilled players' prowess to match mine even though their skill level hasn't really changed
3: I get matched against them a lot. So I win more and eventually hit TK
Like my skill level hasn't changed that much it's just matchmaking, it's all matchmaking and I hate it
