Updated opinions on wood species?

I know questions have floated around on this sub in the past - but I'm curious if your opinions have changed on the type of wood to use? I am in New England - and my options right now are cedar, aspen and alder. Alder being the least expensive. But, of course many others exist and I'm having a hard time deciding which will be best for a long lasting, beautiful, robust and comfortable wood.
