The city should stop using X/Meta for official broadcasts

The only reason cited by the mods here for why they didn't want to ban X links? Because the government uses X. And honestly, if any place shouldn't use X more than Reddit, it's the government. So let's ask them to stop

Subject: The city of San Jose should stop using partisan social media sites

The city of San Jose should stop using partisan social media sites to broadcast official government information and only use official government managed facilities for broadcasts.

X/Twitter is owned and run by someone who donated millions to one party and is a member of the presidential cabinet. During the recent presidential run, X was used to promote one party while the candidate for the other party had their account hidden. Using X to broadcast information would tend to alienate those who are not aligned with the incoming president’s party, which would be the majority of San Jose voters.

Even Facebook, Instagram and Threads are run by someone who donated millions and appeared on stage at the president's inauguration. The city would never broadcast official business on the president’s site Truth Social. Why are X and Meta-owned sites treated differently? Sending traffic to these sites in-effect increases their revenues, as they depend on traffic to sell advertisements. This money can then be used to make political donations, so using these sites is inherently political.

In addition to political aspects, broadcasting on third party sites have other issues. Specifically: the city cannot control who is allowed to view the broadcasts; the city cannot control who can comment or otherwise interact with the content; and the city cannot control how the broadcast is presented. For example, users must have an account to even view posts, and the post may be shown alongside hate speech. The city should not be using sites like this to spread official information.
