What's the deal with Nighthaven operators only now?

I stopped playing the game long ago, around when Kali was released, at level 150 when the Nighthaven shit just began and touched the game here and there on rare occasions since then playing some Zero. At the time I thought "oh cool new lore" and didn't think much of it. However, I recently tried to catch up on all the new lore of the new ops I missed out and like 90% of them are from Nighthaven. Wtf is the deal with that? One of the main reasons I liked R6S lore so much is because even though it was fictional, it was rooted in reality with all the REAL special ops groups from around the world and it felt realistic but now its seems Ubisoft is going balls to the wall full sci fi mode on the game. Wtf? Any explanation would be helpful
