SERIOUS: Lore scalings including games SHOULD be allowed and Lore/Book and On-screen characters should be two different versions, people should understand this
This is a very common problem I see for people when it comes to scaling characters. Point is, these lore addons are there to expand the story, give more background, and etc. However, sometimes there ARE some slight tweaks compared to the main one and the books. That's why I consider separating the two and specifying which version. Like if someone makes a matchup about Master Roshi VS Base DBS Broly, there's ALWAYS gonna be someone pointing out the Roshi dodging Jiren's attacks, in turn, this WILL spark a debate and you'll see people saying "Errr actually 🤓, Roshi never did that therefore Broly just speedblitzes him and calls it a day". That is WHY I want to separate two versions of these characters so unnecessary arguments won't happen. Why you may ask? It's:
- It respects the different creative intents behind adaptations.
- avoids confusion
- It lessens the temper when debating
Example 1: In the anime Dragonball Super, Master Roshi never fights Jiren nor does he teach Goku. In the Manga though however, he does exactly that.
Example 2 (Although slightly offtopic, it should count imo): In TLOTR books, Saruman and Grima enslaved the Hobbits and occupied the Shire, and it was up to Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pipin to free their homeland by leading a rebellion, and after that they had to rebuild the Shire. Something that is not shown in the movies
Example 3: Legends Luke has more busted feats compared to his more grounded Canon version, that's why people differentiate them.
Example 4: God of War: The books give Kratos more emotional depth and power feats that aren’t as clear in the games.
Also remember what I said earlier, "sometimes there ARE some slight tweaks compared to the main one and the books." Those slight tweaks CAN change the narrative and context of the events.
So if the on-screen media shows a character beating another character who's at best building+ with prob subsonic speeds, the books WILL sometimes change it up so instead of just saying "this character beat him to death by headbutting him to death", it will be more like "His strikes shook the island they were fighting in, causing landslides" to make it more "powerful" or fantasy-like. So please I advise using a specific version of a character. That way, people will understand it better. :3
