Can I leave the rim of my cups unglazed?

I’m looking for inspo on how to glaze my cups. I love the earthy, minimal style but I’m seeing cups without the rims glazed. Is this still gonna be safe to drink from if the rims aren’t glazed? I’m a pottery newb so any explanations are greatly appreciated :)
