Cob advice

I started with Briar, just got my first cob( Missouri meerschaum country gentleman). Maybe I'm just over thinking things but the shank is angled to one side(much more noticeable in person), will this affect how it smokes? With the gaps around the draft hole, does that make it a pain to keep clean? Also something is off putting about the idea of smoking that glob of glue. Is this kind of craftmanship typical for Missouri meerschaum? I understand it's only a $40 pipe but it just seems sloppy?
