What OI did you start with high expectations only to be disappointed with?

The premise was very interesting, the manhwa was even drawn by the artist of "Beware the Villainess" (an OI I enjoyed) and every review I came across for this was positive, so I naturally had high expectations for it.

While I do like the whole "mystery" side of it with the disappearance of the Saintess, FL "bonding" with the og Renee, and the twists during the investigation (and some other points), there's just some aspects of the story that made me lose interest.

  1. The ML: Just why? Love/Admiration at first sight can be good if it's written well, but when this love/devotion becomes the only defining characteristic for the ML, it feels like lazy writing (/lh). The ML has little to no personality or motivations aside from the fact that he's attracted to the FL bc she's the most powerful person he's met. We see no development, he's like that from their very first meeting.

  2. The Crown Prince: He has potential to be an intriguing character; someone who was flawed but slowing realising and working on his shortcomings. He even has a more interesting personality than the ML, but I feel like over the course of the story, he might continue to lose that and just become a regretful 2nd ML.

  3. The ending (based on novel spoilers): After being disappointed with the romance aspect, I looked up spoilers to see if there were any other upcoming plot points that would make me want to keep reading - that's when I was let down again - by the ending. The FL spent over 500 years inside the game with the sole purpose of eventually returning to her own world. In the ending she just decides to stay back inside the game. Why? Because of love. After yearning for centuries on end to go home she just declined the option to do just that and instead stays inside the fictional world to be with the ML?? Completely wastes the reader's investment in her motivations.

I feel like the story could be much better if they removed the romance aspect from it, but to each their own ig. Wow this was long lol, but I'm open to changing my mind if anyone has any other takes on this.

What OI was like this for you guys?
