Does black skin turn red when it's smacked?

I'm writing a story where a character belly-flops into water. I wrote a line noting that the redness from the belly-flop showed despite her dark complexion, but then I started questioning if this is actually the case. Like, will the redness be visible if it's a more caramel skin tone? What about a more chocolate tone?
