How often, if at all, did your parents apologize to you?
This topic came up for me recently, and I realized I have no idea what is normal, both generally and for millennials in particular. I would love to know if your parents ever apologized to you when you were a child (before age 18) or as an adult. If they did, how often? How did the apology go? For this question, I consider it an apology if they said “I’m sorry” to you directly or said anything more involved where they admitted they did something wrong.
My feeling is that baby boomer parents generally did not apologize for things, but I have no real data to base that feeling on. I would love to hear any personal stories as well as any studies or articles about this! It would be very interesting to hear theories about what happened to each generation and how that relates to parents understanding their roles as parents, how they related to the wielding of authority, how they viewed children, etc.
