Please help !

I'm 18M, My family and I live in a heavy deposit apartment, where the entire amount was contributed by my mother. My father has cheated on my mother, and as a family, we do not want to live with him anymore. Years ago, my mother filed a complaint against him in the town where they used to live, about 15-16 years ago. Despite this, he refuses to leave us alone and continues to stay with us, causing trouble. Today, we had a fight during which he hit me and verbally abused us.

I want to file a prior complaint against him discreetly so that he remains unaware, in case things escalate further. I want to ensure that I do not face any legal trouble. My mother told me he has connections in the police department and legal circles, which allowed him to get away with his behavior in the past. I was about to call the police today, but my mother stopped me, fearing that he might take everything from us, as the flat we live in is registered in his name. What legal steps can I take to protect my family without suffering any financial or legal losses?
