Effectiveness of body sunscreen available in Indian market

I recently came back from Singapore (it was not even that sunny there) & despite of religiously using sunscreen I have tanned heavily especially on my body & a bit in face too.

Now I'm wondering how effective sunscreens available in Indian market actually are? I have used brands like Neutrogena, Minimalist, Vaseline, Nivea (smells horrible), fixderma, Rivela & more Indian pharma brands.

Is this just my experience or there's an efficacy issue with sunscreens in Indian market? What's the point in paying so much for sunscreen if it's not working? I use Japanese, Australian sunscreens for face but they are too expensive to be used on whole body.

Let me know if any sunscreen brands have worked for you especially when you're out & about in the sun during vacays?
