Looking at buying land for a lease.
Folks, please forgive my ignorance here but I'm not a hunter so I figured I'd ask the experts... My father is a huge hunter and I've always wanted to do something for him so I'm looking at purchasing some land and converting it to a hunting lease. Before I do I have a few questions...
- Is 150 acres and acceptable size for a hunting lease?
- How many hunters can 150 acres reasonably support? (My guess has been my dad and possibly one more)
- The property I'm looking at has frequent whitetail, turkey, and the occasional bobcat from what I can tell. It is also in elk territory according to the state. Is this good?
- If the property can support more than one hunter how much would be a reasonable price to charge for access to this kind of property? (Please, no ridiculous $1 per acre comments. I may not be a hunter but I know better than that.)
I'm hoping I can get this done. My dad would absolutely flip to be able to hunt a private rather than trying to scrounge public lands but he always said was much harder to do.
Thanks to anyone willing to help out with some information.
