Christine McVie/Tango in the Night Appreciation Post
Insane lead vocalist. Genius song writer. Flawless live performer. Don’t even get me started on how’s she’s THE harmony ninja.
Tango in the Night is maybe my favorite album by them (newish fan, haven’t quite listened to the whole discography) and I think it’s because of how much they let Christine take control. I mean give me a break… Everywhere, Mystified, Little Lies, and Isn’t it Midnight are HITS. It’s absolutely criminal I can’t find more than a few live versions of Isn’t it Midnight on YT and it’s nowhere to be found on Spotify. Also, Family Man sounds like a Christine song written for LB.
Another note, I love SN and LB but I dislike some songs of theirs. I love every Christine song I’ve heard. I love every song co-written by Christine.
I feel like every time SN or LB needed a “more tender” song they came to Christine for help. Some of my all time favorite LB tracks are ones co written by Christine or where LB is singing right under Christine’s range (i.e. You and I, Pt. II)
I’m not positive but I want to assume there are tons of songs Christine helped on but didn’t take a writer’s credit. At least it seems that way when you listen to Christine’s stuff and some of the more tender LB and SN stuff.
RIP to the GOAT
side tangent 1: The Killers totally stole the opening riff for Seven Wonders, removed one chord, and used it for When You Were Young.
side tangent 2: As an MGMT fan, I wanted to see if they were influenced by Fleetwood Mac once I started listening to them and noticing similarities. Nowhere could I find them listed as influences even thought MGMT’s entire discography sounds like it’s trying to be Tango in the Night and Dark Side of the Moon… I can’t put my finger on the song but I know for a fact they’ve copied the style in which the back up vocals are sung in Mystified
