Choose all the wrong degrees for FIRE.. is there anyway back
Pursued my passions of broadcasting and film (degree and masters) and worked in the film industry until I was 36 as that was my joy - didn’t make tons and worked every hour for the day but I loved it. Then had a child.. hours stopped being possible, at least working away from home.. and now film is suffering.. and have ended up working for the local municipal govt in permits - total bod job. Now, at 44, I feel completely trapped as I don’t know what direction I should go in and my jobs pays a meh $76k a year (yes it could be worse but those are Canadian dollars, so it’s pretty bad). I’m not passionate about my job but love the defined benefit pension. Reading edit threads it seems tech was where it was at for FIRE but it’s pretty over saturated and I’ve got no tech skills - the most obv transferable skills are somewhat project management like although I have no certs. I want to have my cake and eat it too: maintain work life balance as I have a young child and I’m a single parent, whilst boosting my income. I can’t afford to take on more student debt and at 44 I don’t want to commit to another 3-4 year degree.
So I guess I throw this question out to you all, who are on the way or have made it. If you were me, what would you do, what direction would you go in? I spend hours trying to pick my next move and can’t figure it out. Office environments aren’t so good for my mental health but I realize I may not have a choice.
Thanks all.
