how much interaction/protection should i run?
okay technically this is a repeat of a post i made a little bit ago but my deck has changed a good amount since then.
anyway, im making a [[mairsil, the pretender]] deck: https://archidekt.com/decks/11719791/mairsil_soul_cauldron_at_home
essentially i etb it, learn new abilities, and try make alot of mana and draw.
ive also gone for some quircky gimmicks like infect/deathtouch/lifelink pinging/burn as my removal, lifegain, and wincon. (quantities in the deck are off for now but just know this mechanic is in there)
ive also got a plethora of self protection, options that let mairsil do anything from regenerating herself to phasing herself out.
that being said, in order to use them i need to waste an etb “learning” it, an etb that could be better used on a big card like [[asmodeus the archfiend]] , [[gilded lotus]] , or [[eater of the dead]] .
another factor to consider is, its not the end of the world if she dies, recasting her lets me learn a new card and it can even learn from my graveyard, infact im even running cards like [[nevinyrral’s disk]] which mairsil can also learn, same goes for the deathtouch-ping-all, i just feel like a boardwipe hurts everyone else more than me. especially if i combine it with a flicker/reanimate.
