WoTC strategy for the aetherdrift precons makes no sense to me
I don't like aetherdrift. I am a bit over all the wacky sets about cowboys, detectives, and now mario kart style racing. I think magic is better when it tries to be less childish.
But apart from that, i think this set misses the target completely when it comes to commander.
With precons now being one of the main sources of income for WoTC, i think it would make business sense for their mechanics to be related to those of the main set, so a precon buyer can feel tempted to buy some packs so that he might get cards to upgrade the precon: for example, you buy the jump scare precon, then you open some duskmourn boosters packs to try and get the best manifiest cards, to mention a recent example.
However, instead they have given us a zombie deck while there are almost no zombies in the main set (i count something like 3 zombies in the main set that care about zombies, plus 2 reprints), and a energy deck with zero energy cards in the main set, with the set almost completely spoiled now.
I was hyped about getting more energy cards and instead, we are getting almost none, and most of the new cards are green, meaning they will only be good for the precon commanders, so zero reason for the Satya or Dr. Li players to feel happy about the one set about Kaladesh in what is probably going to be quite a long time.
Plus, one of the two new mechanic in the set is very commander unfriendly. Without a lot "start your engine" cards in a deck to get to max speed quickly, that mechanic means "this card won't ever do its thing" because there is no way it is going to stay a minimum of 4 turns in the table so you can get max speed. Hell, funny how a mechanic about speed, racing, and the like, ends being so absurdly slow.
